We hadn't intented to visit Pisa's Leaning Tower as we planned our trip but we have a few hours at our disposal before our flight departed Pisa for Sicily. We were so close, so why not? The tower itself is set amid a pocket of beautiful Renaissance architecture. Despite throngs of tourists and a guantlet of selfie-sticks we enjoyed a very peaceful couple of hours reading on the lawn near the tower. The climb to the top of the tower is memorable because the staircase plane shifts as you assend the spiral shaircase to the top.
